Located in the rolling hills of central Virginia among historic civil war battlefields and picturesque vineyards, Shenandoah Crossing Resort offers guests endless options to spend their vacation time in “rugged” luxury. Comprised of over 1,000 acres, with a lake for boating and fishing, trails for hiking and horse back riding, and pools and hot tubs for relaxing, the resort offers vacationers many exciting activities.

One of the design team’s main goals was to preserve the forest setting of the secluded retreat through careful site planning. The team strategically placed the lodging options—ranging from deluxe town homes and grand cabins to the more rustic, tent-like yurts—to disturb the dense vegetation as little as possible. To highlight Shenandoah’s unique environment, Mike Hughes Architects designed a one-of-a-kind treehouse lodging suite, nestled in the midst of the woods.

Through all design phases and construction, the design team’s attention to detail and commitment to quality ensured the project’s success, creating a one-of-a-kind vacation experience nestled in the rustic landscape of Gordonsville, Virginia.
